I had a bird fly down my Chimney and get trapped. We could hear him flapping around in there since last evening. I tried opening the flue wider in the hope that he would come further down but he wouldn’t have anything to do with that.
We tried every thing we could think of but he just wasn’t coming down. I just needed to know how to get a bird out of a chimney.
As night fell he settled down and we couldn’t hear him anymore. We feared the worst. I was thinking about how to take the chimney off the wood stove. I knew that would be a dirty, painstaking involved process. So I slept on it.
This morning after the sun had come up I heard the bird again but he sounded different. I opened the stove door a crack and there was this bird staring back at me. I closed the door and thought about my new problem, how to get the bird out of the stove in one piece.
I tried a variety of things with out much success but I will tell you what worked.
I knew that bird couldn’t see glass or transparent things very well so I grabbed a large, clear storage container from the garage. I opened one side of the stove and covered it with the container. Then I opened the other side and slammed the container over the opening in the stove. I used something heavy to hold the container in place while I scrounged around in the garage for a lid. The one on the container was to hard to move quickly. Luckily I had some plexiglass sheet available.
The bird eventually flew into the container (after about 20 tries) and I slid the plexiglass down over the top of the container, trapping the bird inside.
I took him out to the yard and set him free. That was my morning adventure. I hope your day is going well.

This happened to me 20 minutes ago. This little bird staring at me out the glass in wood stove!! My back door is near so I opened that door & then the door to wood stove, crossed my fingers & thank goodness it flew right out the door!🙏🏻❤️
